Celebrate UK National Chip Week 2012 20th-26th February
We love fish and chips and so do the people of Britain who consume over 300 million portions of Fish and Chips every year which is why this great nation has chosen to dedicate one week in the year to celebrate all the great things about chips. To get UK National Chip Week started our local chippy, Seniors of Thornton, Lancashire was rightfully crowned 2012 Fish and Chip Shop of the Year. Owned and run by the Horabin family, Seniors has been dishing up fantastic fish and chips since 2000 and now run three wonderful fish and chip restaurant and take aways along the Fylde Coast. We’ve sampled the delights of locally caught fish and perfectly cooked chips, mushy peas and gravy many times and are delighted Seniors were awarded this prestigious award.
While the British love eating chips from a takeaway, why not celebrate the wide variety of chips available and make your own. Get the oven on and cut up some chunky chips sprinkled in paprika for a fiery dish or coast them in sweet chilli sauce before baking for a delicous side dish with some fish. Alternatively try the increasingly popular tortilla chips with some homemade salsa and sour cream, delicious!
Weather your treating yourself to a Friday chippy tea, creating a Masterchef style deconstructed fish and chips or delving into a bowl of chips and dip you’ll be celebrating a long standing tradition and unusually something that the Brits do better than anyone else.
