Spicy King Prawn Skewers – BBQ Food Heaven!

If you’re looking for a really easy but incredibly tasty dish to cook for National BBQ week then look no further! These Spicy King Prawn Skewers are so easy to make and they taste sensational especially when they’re served alongside our delicious Coconut & Mango Pilaf.

These can be grilled in the oven but to really take the flavour to the next level cook them over coals on the BBQ. These amazing Spicy King Prawn Skewers really should be on your menu this week, it is National BBQ Week after all and who doesn’t like a BBQ!

Spicy King Prawn Skewers.

Prep time; 5 mins + 30 minutes marinating time

Cook time; 6 mins

Serves:  4 – 6


  • 2 large Garlic Cloves – Crushed
  • 1/2 Tsp Cayenne Pepper
  • 2 Tsp Paprika
  • 1/2 Tsp Dried Oregano
  • 3 Tbsp Olive Oil
  • 15ml Fresh Lemon Juice
  • 600g Large Raw King Prawns – Peeled, washed and de-veined
  • Pinch Sea Salt
  • 1 Lemon  – Cut Into Wedges


  1. Pour the olive oil into a small bowl. Add the lemon juice, garlic, salt, cayenne pepper, paprika and oregano. Stir well.
  2. Add the washed and dried king prawns to a bowl, pour over the marinade and mix well, every prawn should be covered in the oil.
  3. Cover and refrigerate for half an hour.
  4. Carefully add the king prawns to BBQ skewers.
  5. Cook over pre-heated BBQ coals or under a grill (medium heat) and cook for 2-3 minutes either side. The prawns will turn opaque and must be thoroughly cooked before serving.
  6. Serve with lemon wedges.

Author Tips;

Delicious served with Coconut and Mango Pilaf.

Add extra cayenne pepper or a dash of hot sauce if you like it extra hot and spicy. We serve the prawns with Franks Red Hot Sauce on the side, this way the family can add an extra kick to the dish to suit their taste.

If using frozen king prawns ensure they are fully defrosted, washed and dried before marinating.
