Small Kitchen Solutions

If you are not one of the lucky few to own an enormous kitchen diner with a free-standing island, American style fridge freezer and 8 seater dining table, do not despair. There are hundreds of space saving ideas and appliances out there that can add both appeal and functionality to even the smallest space.small-kitchen-solutions-10

The first thing to remember is not everything has its place. If you find your existing cooker is in one area, but your kitchen would flow better and free up space, then take the plunge and the extra cost and move it.

Ask yourself is there scope to enlarge existing windows or replace them with a full length glass panel or even better a door to your garden? Could you add a skylight or roof lantern in the ceiling? There are hundreds of window options out there, so do your research and find the best one for you.

Additional lighting under wall cupboards, in your cooker hood and even on your plinths may make the most amazing difference to both the ambience and light bouncing around your kitchen.

As well as decor, cabinet colour choice and lighting, appliance specialists now offer some fabulous space saving solutions for smaller kitchens. Thinking about sinks is one way to save space; you could use a single sink without a drainer like the Caple ZERO 35 Stainless Steel Sink, then add a plate drainer above the sink and have a removable sink drainer at the side of the sink to dry your dishes. That way you can remove the drainer whenever you require extra work space. Many companies now also offer both slim line and half size integrated dishwashers so this is another great way to add extra inches in your kitchen area.

If your kitchen is tiny you can also save space with your hob. Gorenje do a fabulous 2 zone hood, the Gorenje, IT 320 AC, Induction Hob; which still looks incredible but takes up half the surface space. Also think about using a cooker hood with a glass surround which will look less imposing but still packs a style punch, the Caple FGC910 Chimney Cooker Hood is a great example of this.

I guess what we are saying is that small really still can be beautiful, stylish and unique. There are so many great products out there that offer space saving solutions and they don’t cost the earth either, so don’t just plan your kitchen units, plan your appliance options too and give yourself space and light.
