Our Kitchens are Shrinking!

A recent new survey has brought attention to something quite interesting. The survey tells us out kitchens have become around a third smaller since the 1960’s!

Kitchens have always been the heart of the home, so why the decrease in size?

Well, the last few years has seen a big increase in the amount we eat out. We all love to go out for a lovely meal, cooked by someone else in a nice environment, so maybe this could be a factor as to why we may feel we don’t need the a large kitchen?

The cost of space is expensive! Especially with the survey outlining the shrinkage is mostly in London. London is home to many studio flats and bedsits where space is a real issue but it’s the only way people can afford to live there.

On the flip side, let’s look at technology. As technology advances, our appliances seem to shrink. If you remember the first microwave, it wasn’t what we know today. They were big and clunky and not so great. Today’s kitchens play host to some of the world’s most amazing inventions but it’s so easy to overlook. The microwave oven as we know it is now small and compact, being able to fit into cupboards or be installed as part of the kitchen as a built in microwave oven.

Dishwashers have now become so advanced and affordable that we can fit them in almost any nook or cranny. The latest slim line dishwashers mean we can have the luxury without losing too much space. So maybe we don’t need that much room anyway!

Take a look at our range of slim line appliances and microwave ovens to fit into your cubbyhole!
