Why choose a Belfast sink?

Trends may come and go but Belfast sinks are a timeless choice for any style of kitchen. If you’re planning to update your kitchen this year, you’ll find that a Belfast sink is a wise choice. It will never go out of fashion and will be a sink you’ll love for many years to come.

But why are Belfast sinks so enduringly popular?
Their timeless appeal is perhaps down to the fact that they’re made from white ceramic, which works well with almost every kitchen and which looks good when it’s in pristine condition and when it’s showing signs of wear and tear. In addition, the generous size of Belfast sinks means they’re extremely practical, especially in a family home where there’s lots to wash up!  Read more about the history of Belfast sinks here.

Are all Belfast sinks the same?
Not at all. Where once Belfast sinks were plain rectangular designs you can now get a host of shapes and sizes to suit different lifestyles, tastes and kitchen layouts.  Plain Belfast sinks will always remain a popular choice though they can vary in terms of the squareness of their edging and the thickness of their walls.  Pictured below is the Shaws Classic Shaker 900 Ceramic Sink.

If you want something a little more ornate, there are options with groove and ribbed-effect embellishments. Pictured below is the Shaws Ribchester 800 Ceramic Sink.

You can also get Belfast sinks which give you even more washing up space.  These are also known as Butler sinks.  Pictured below is the Shaws Classic Butler 1000 Ceramic Sink.

A note on fitting

When fitting a Belfast sink, it’s worth considering whether you would like to add a draining board. Many people have their Belfast sink set within their kitchen worktops – a matching draining board can give a practical and ‘finished’ look to the sink area.

Manufacturers of Belfast sinks
